Bachelor of Arts Counseling Psychology 


The Bachelor of Arts Counseling Psychology (BA Counseling Psychology) degree trains graduates who will practice counseling in organizations, with individuals, criminal investigations among others. It is designed as a three year course at KCA University. 


BA Counseling Psychology produces Counselors with ability and skills to deal with challenges that arise in their line of duty. Apart from attracting teachers, the course attracts students from other professions among them; Psychologists, Doctors, Counselors, Psychiatrists, Social workers, Nurses and the Clergy offering counseling in various settings. The content of the curriculum has been determined by the professional requirements of the counseling profession.


This course offers an inside view of core counseling techniques and approaches, and opportunities for counseling professionals to understand the complex role client diversity plays in their work. It provides understanding into how personal and professional ethics play a major role in the dynamics between counselor and client.


The B.A Counseling Psychology graduates will take on appropriate professional positions in the field of counseling upon graduation for employment and development to enhance individual well being and growth in counseling or pursue research in the field.  

Minimum admission requirements:

​Candidates shall only be admitted if they hold a:


  • Minimum of C Plus (C+) in KCSE.

  • Minimum of C plain in KCSE with P1 or 2 years relevant experience in counseling.

  • Minimum of C plain and a credit in a counseling diploma from a university or a recognized institution.

  • KACE with at least 2 Principal Passes and 1 Subsidiary.

  • KACE with at least 1 Principal Pass and 2 Subsidiaries.

  • KCE with at least Division 2 or above. In addition, a candidate must have counseling experience of 3 years


Full Time: Eight  Trimesters - 3 Years

Evening: Eight Trimesters - 3 Years

Weekend: Eight Trimesters - 3 Years

School Based: Eight holiday sessions

Distance Learning: Eight Trimesters - 3 Years



Program Start Dates:

Full Time: January, May & September

School Based: April, August & December
