Joint partnership between KCA University, Co-operative Bank of Kenya and RentCo Leasing Company

KCA University has partnered with Co-operative Bank of Kenya and Rentco, a leasing company to provide students with laptops worth Ksh50 million through a lease to own agreement to facilitate learning amidst COVID-19 pandemic.

KCA University is a chartered private University established by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in July 1989, initially as Kenya College of accountancy. Over the years, the University has witnessed rapid growth numbers for both government and self-sponsored students which currently stands at over 15,000.

Co-operative Bank of Kenya is a leading bank incorporated in Kenya under the Company Act and is also licensed to do the business of banking under the Banking Act. Co-op bank Kenya is the financier of the lease agreement between KCA University and RentCo limited.

 RentCo Africa Limited is one of the largest Asset leasing company in East Africa that provides off and on balance financing. RentCo provides rental finance solutions directly to large and medium-sized organizations through the development of vendor finance programs for all types of business assets in all sector.

The partnership comes at a crucial time when students have transitioned to study remotely, allowing those who do not have computers to purchase laptops to guarantee continuity in academic studies. The laptops will be accessible to both Government and Self-sponsored students at variable cost, depending on the category of laptop and duration of payment.

In compliance with the Government directive to all learning institutions in March 2020 that stopped on campus face to face mode of studies, KCA University transitioned to remote engagement and assessment, and committed to provide students with laptops at a subsidized cost.

The University further undertook a survey to establish among other issues, access rate to the required gadgets and internet to enable them engage in virtual classes. In response, KCA University has provided subsidized internet data bundles for all students to facilitate learning during this pandemic period.

The laptops project will not only support research, remote engagement and transfer of IT skills but also connect students with global and industry trends as well as connection among themselves.
